Greenway Home Improvements misleading their customers once again, the Advertising Standards Authority involved, again !!!!

Business review:

To highlight what kind of business Greenway Home Improvements (t/a Greenway) are, I am providing the public with the following information:-

Some months ago a member of the public made an official complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) following information they saw on the internet that contradicted Greenway’s advertising.

This individual sent me a copy of the blog posted by Greenway Home Improvements, AKA 'Double Glazing Guy Online’.

An extract from the Greenway’s Blog follows (N.B. Once the ASA became involved, the blog mysteriously disappeared from the internet, but luckily the complainant kept a copy of the blogs, as it was expected for the evidence to disappear):-

There’s no such thing as a discount in the double glazing industry flower it up as you like there are NO DISCOUNTS. Each company who calls to see you has a price they need to sell that product for and alot of the time the sale price is derived from the size of company, the bigger the company the higher the overheads the more they have to charge, it’s just how business works. Even I have to offer a “DISCOUNT” to get my phone ringing… but my discount is based on a price I have to sell my product for…. so is it a genuine discount? Well I’ll have to leave you to decide that.. anyway on with my point….

So, we all have a price that we need to stick too, NO 40% showhome offers, NO 30% off conservatories and a free glass roof, NO buy one get one free.

Greenway’s advertising / blog emphasized there is now such thing as a discount in the double glazing industry. Yet, Greenway’s website stated, “save a 1/3 of everything”. Greenway even admits that they use the word “DISCOUNT”, simply to get the telephone ringing.

Thus, Greenway’s advertising was misleading / dishonest.

An informal investigation was conducted by the ASA and subsequently Greenway eventually removed the misleading / dishonest advertising claims, that Greenway was offering a discount to their customers.

Greenway did change their advertising, but replaced the claims of discounts with further claims that Greenway, AKA 'Double Glazing Guy Online' stated does not exist in the double glazing industry. Or in the words of Double Glazing Guy Online, “So, we all have a price that we need to stick too, NO 40% showhome offers, NO 30% off conservatories and a free glass roof, NO buy one get one free.”

How can Greenway now offer a, “Free upgrade to a glass roof”, “Free 42’’ LCD TV”, or a “Free Apple iPad 2”?

So, is Greenway being legal, decent and honest with Greenway’s advertising?

Greenway was named an shamed by the ASA on 23 October 2013.

P.s. Thank you to the person who forwarded me this information relating to Greenway and the ASA complaint.

****** UPDATE March 2014*******

Are Greenway being legal, decent and honest in Greenway's current advertising ?

Greenway currently state in their advertising,

"VAT FREE SAVINGS NOW!

Yes it's true! We'll Pay Your VAT when you order a bespoke conservatory, orangery or choose our very latest replacement windows and doors this month."

"VAT FREE is equivalent to 20% discount - please ask in showroom for full terms and conditions."

Please remember from Greenway' blog / Greenway’s own words (copied above)-

“There’s no such thing as a discount in the double glazing industry flower it up as you like there are NO DISCOUNTS.”

Greenway even admits that they use the word “DISCOUNT”, simply to get the telephone ringing.

So check,

ARE YOU REALLY getting a VAT free discount ! ! ! !
